Selina Maitreya: Spiritual Teacher

Published on 07/13/2017

What is your life’s purpose?
My life’s purpose is to live my life responding to all beings and events, regardless of the difficulty presented, from one of the many physical manifestations of love.

How are you living your purpose?
I accept total responsibility for all that transpires in my life and live in great awareness of the way that I walk in the world. I fulfill my purpose by being crystal clear that my actions and intentions are aligned. When I notice that they are not in alignment, I ask “what am I to learn?”  I allow an answer to land and then I work with that information. All actions are purposeful even missteps and moments of unconscious behavior.

When chaos arrives, I use it as an alarm clock and ask what physical face of love I am being asked to respond to myself and others with. As I respond from my truth, I do so with compassion, patience, kindness, and wisdom. I choose to use any judgmental behavior that I see in myself as an opportunity to go to grace. I know that the frequency I hold as a response to any chaotic situation is what creates my next moment and so I always make an effort to hold a positive vibration.

On a personal note, I live in constant attention of my behavior 24/7 and in constant communion with higher wisdom. I use all judgments that I hold as opportunities to bless myself and others.

I see all obstacles, frustrations and irritations, difficulties and tragedies as opportunities to go to grace.

I hold the space for others as a spiritual teacher and provide tools and practices that my students can use so that they can lead abundant lives, connected to the frequency of love that is their natural inheritance. Through this holy vocation, I write articles, hold online as well as group and individual teachings, and deliver spiritual messages worldwide via Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.

How did you find your purpose?
I was introduced to spirituality when I was 16 years old. At that time, my name, Selina Maitreya, was given to me by my first teacher.

I visited my spiritual path on and off throughout my 20s. At age 28, I experienced a personal crisis and chose to become sober. I worked with a therapist for 12 years and, at age 43, I was introduced to a new teacher whom I’ve worked with for the past 19 years. My work with Mother Hope has taught me how to make my life my spiritual practice. I live in the high frequency of the Masters 24/7 and utilize every single experience that happens to me in my daily life as an opportunity to increase my consciousness.

Over the last 15 years, I’ve been a spiritual teacher—writing, lecturing, holding in-person teaching retreats, and developing online materials so that others can learn how to utilize their life as their practice, to access the gift of higher wisdom and to build lives that are truly abundant.

In the summer of 2013, I experienced a life-changing experience that reinforced that the work that I had done to live in love was truly practical. About to sell my house of 20 years and begin a new life in NYC, my car was hit by another. I was left severely impaired and brain damaged, unable to walk normally in my life for several years. Not knowing how I was to move into a new life or earn a living, I continued to feel blessed and was never concerned for my fate. I was unable to hold a conversation for long periods of time and was left in a position where constant meditation and rest were required.

During this time, I was visited continuously by Spirit. Messages were downloaded daily and I was informed that my life was shifted forever. I was told that my lifelong role as “Teacher” was about to take another turn. Knowing that my practice of responding to all from love was the reason for my total certainty and lack of striving during a huge life-changing event, I became committed then and there to be a spiritual teacher helping others to respond to life as love, as they build lives guided by practical spirituality.

What advice do you have for purpose seekers?
The advice that I have for any being on a path who is looking to create a life that has deep meaning and purpose, one that is truly abundant, is to stop looking externally for answers.

When I say stop looking externally, I refer to any actions that are outside of you living in awareness and responding from love to all events in your daily life.

Many beings on a spiritual path feel it’s enough to turn to yoga, meditation, and prayer—expecting these actions to make them holy and to bring the changes in their life that they seek. Yoga, meditation, and prayer are wonderful practices that give you immediate access to your higher wisdom, the frequency that entered your body upon your first breath; but these practices are only individual experiences that can easily get eclipsed by your conduct as you walk through the world, if you are not grounded in grace and gratitude and you invest in drama, denial, and negativity.

The real work is for you to choose to have all of your actions—from the moment you wake up to the moment you rest your head on your pillow at the end of the day—represent you choosing to respond to everything in your life from one of the many physical manifestations of love. Choosing patience, kindness, compassion, understanding, tolerance, wisdom, gratitude and grace as your response to any chaos that arises, that’s the work.

This is not simple work, although it’s simple to discuss. This is not easy work, for there is much attention and awareness, observation, discipline, and commitment involved. But this is truly the work that is needed in order for people to be the abundance that most seek. Abundance is not a thing, it’s not a noun. It doesn’t suddenly just appear. We all have the capacity to be abundant beings. In my experience, abundance is the result of learning how to repeatedly choose a physical manifestation of love as a response to all of our life’s events, small and large.

Think about that for a moment. If you were able to be patient with your teenagers, have compassion for your elders who can’t remember, have tolerance for the people who scooped your subway seat or cut you off on the road, you would actually in these moments be the energies of patience, tolerance, and compassion. Over time, by being these frequencies, you become abundant as you are living inside of the frequencies of love, and there is nothing more abundant than that.

Finally, if you think about the many, many times you have the opportunity to choose the frequencies of love rather than judgment, righteousness, anger, and frustration you see how many opportunities you actually have to be an abundant being.

That is the work of Practical Spirituality, the work of walking in your life having your values and actions in alignment, choosing a loving response and using your life as your practice. These actions, repeated, truly increase your consciousness and bring in a life that is holy and abundant.

Prior to and concurrent with her coaching career for the last 30+ years, Selina has been a spiritual student studying many philosophies and spiritual practices. Drawn to the simple yet powerful idea that We Are All ONE, that our natural inheritance is LOVE, and that our actions affect not only us but every single energy entity, Selina began to live her life as her practice. Committed to responding from LOVE to life’s many challenges, gifts, and experiences, Selina began to live what she now calls Practical Spirituality. Her life completely shifted and she realized that regardless of external circumstances, as she responded to life through one of the many faces of love—kindness, gratitude, grace, compassion, wisdom and tolerance—she was creating an existence that was peaceful and abundant, relationships that were rich and meaningful.
